Candidate for APA President- Elect
Increase. Focus. Strengthen. Prioritize.
It is an amazing honor to be a candidate for APA President-Elect position, and I look forward to the opportunity to earn your support. Since joining the APA in 1992 I have utilized my psychiatry skills in many different settings, including community health centers and mental health centers, academic hospitals, medical schools, college mental health, consultant to sports leagues, policy development, and private practice. I have devoted my career to the care of the most vulnerable populations inducing SMI and those impacted by violence and disasters.

“You are a multi-talented psychiatrist who practices, teaches, mentors and conducts internationally renowned research all out of a public sector setting. In other words, you could receive any of the awards tonight, if not all. Because this is the clinical psychiatry award, let us focus on the fact that you treat many of the most severely ill psychotic outpatients in the greater Boston area, referred to you because of your reputation as a clinician’s clinician and because you often find it hard to say no. As an expert on the medical consequences of antipsychotic medication you are flooded with requests to speak around the world, yet you manage to care for your patients between lectures. You also run a large and very influential clozapine program and are one of the most prized clinical supervisors of psychiatry residents. You deserve recognition and our appreciation for your continued commitment to patient care at a time when many with your credentials…”
